In late 2005
Stoneybatter Youth Service had been working from a new premises in
O’Devaney Gardens for just under a year and felt that it was time for
the Youth to take ownership of the space. I was approached by the City
of Dublin Youth Service Board Arts Officer about the possibility of collaborating with the many young
people from the area who are part of the groups that use the space.
Initially the project was primarily a collaboration in taking ownership
of a space, an investigation into the use of non-foreclosed drawing to
this end and the complimentary use of colour. Over the course of the
last two years the work has evolved and grown in response to the context
producing an installation piece that fills the space of the Youth
Facility. This work now will be exhibited at the Local Garda Station,
accompanied by a publication and workshops documenting and reflecting on
the different aspects of the project.
