Digital Futures is a collaboration
between Thomas O 'Connor and the Communities of the Liberties
area. It is concerned with the developing polyvalent relationships
between them (as communities and individuals) and the Digital Hub
. In 2005 the Digital Hub
approached Thomas O'Connor with a view to visually developing the
hoarding on Thomas St that would engage with the surrounding local
communities.
Since then three sections of a Digital
Print Mural have been produced with three groups using traditional and
contemporary art making processes from drawing to digital image
manipulation. Integral to these processes have been the extensive
discussions around the relationship between the Community and the Hub,
issues concerning the community/individuals and the ways in which to
produce and express the ideas generated.
It is envisaged that after the initial
engagement the groups will take each section and evolve it using the
skills and access to the Hub's facilities they have developed.
The Groups involved so far have been:
St Nicholas
Myra Heritage/Living Heritage Groups (Section 1)
OliverBond
Home-Work Club (Section 2)
Emmet Buildings
Community Group (Section 3)
