The Dream Factory was a Visual Arts and
Drama workshop hosted by the Axis Centre Ballymun of which the Visual
Arts part was facilitated by two Artists; Thomas O'Connor and Rebecca
Hughes with assistance from students from the National Collage of Art
and Design. This was a two
week arts project where two age groups (8-10yrs) and (10-12yrs) had the
choice of creating a world, the characters that live there and the
stories that unfold through art or drama.
"The overarching aim of the Visual
Arts workshop was to provide an environment where participants
could develop the skills, materials and processes to create the
characters, the places they inhabited and their stories relatively
unfettered directly from imagination."
During the two weeks everyone had the
opportunity to experience everything from drawing, painting and
storyboards to clay-work and model making. By the end everyone took home
a portfolio of two dimensional work and models of their characters and
worlds.
At the end of the two weeks there were
performances and installations of the work that had been produced
attended by family and friends of the participants.
Opposite are some examples of the work
produced with the afternoon group (8-10yrs).
